What we've achieved...
West Sussex County Council
On the A24 near Gatwick Airport, our team successfully delivered a complex traffic management operation that enabled 60 individual jobs to be completed in a single night maximising efficiency and offering excellent value for money for West Sussex County Council. This high output delivery model required meticulous planning to ensure crews could work safely, simultaneously and without interruption. The scheme involved several weeks of coordination with Gatwick Airport to safeguard access for essential airport personnel while ensuring that all airside and landside operations continued without disruption.
A13 DBFO
The A13 DBFO is a key strategic route in east London, operated and maintained under a regulated PFI contract by Road Management Services A13 plc on behalf of Transport for London. The network runs between Butcher Row in Tower Hamlets and Wennington Interchange in Havering, and also includes Docklands Roads such as Limehouse Link Tunnel and East India Dock Tunnel. VolkerTraffic Management has an ongoing traffic management contract on the A13 DBFO network. The team provides planned traffic management solutions for this live, high-volume urban route. Our involvement includes traffic management design, planning, roadspace coordination, liaison with the relevant network stakeholders and safe on-site delivery. By working closely with delivery teams and the network operator, we help create safe working areas while maintaining traffic flows, access and network resilience. Our support enables essential highway and maintenance activities to be undertaken safely and efficiently on one of London’s important arterial routes.
New Bedford Road, Luton – Junction Upgrade
VolkerTraffic Management supported the New Bedford Road junction upgrade in Luton, delivering a new cycling-friendly junction as part of Luton Council’s ongoing work to make it safer and easier for people to travel actively around the town. Our role included the planning and implementation of traffic management arrangements to create safe working areas for the construction team while maintaining access for road users, pedestrians, local businesses and residents. This included traffic management design, site phasing, liaison support and on-site installation, maintenance and removal of temporary traffic management. The scheme required careful planning due to its urban location and the need to balance construction activity with the day-to-day use of the highway network. Through our support, the works could be delivered safely, with disruption managed and access maintained wherever possible.
Southampton Row, Camden – Junction Upgrade
The Southampton Row and Theobalds Road junction improvement formed part of Camden’s wider Holborn Junction Safety Scheme Programme. The scheme was designed to improve safety for vulnerable road users, including new sections of segregated cycle track, cyclist signal improvements, bus lane changes and pedestrian improvements. VolkerTraffic Management supported the scheme by providing traffic management planning and delivery in a constrained central London environment. Our work helped create safe work zones while maintaining the movement of traffic, buses, cyclists and pedestrians through a complex and heavily used junction. The project required close coordination, careful phasing and effective stakeholder liaison to minimise disruption and support safe delivery. Our traffic management teams helped enable the upgrade works while keeping Camden’s road network moving.
