What we've achieved...

TM

SCS JV working on HS2

VolkerTraffic Management is responsible for the temporary traffic management of the 21.6km C1 section of High Speed 2 (HS2) and along the final 26.4km of HS2’s journey to its southern terminus in Euston. Our service includes the delivery of temporary traffic solutions, TM designs, ongoing maintenance, installation of CCTV, road/lane closures and 24-hour emergency call outs. We also undertake transport monitoring counts to understand the average number and type of vehicles used on a stretch of road. Due to the scheme being extremely high-profile, a diverse and flexible traffic management team has been key to its success by quickly responding to fast-paced project changes. This has been achieved by seconding members of the team on a permanent basis to the contract promoting consistency, efficiency and fostering long-term trust and a collaborative relationship between the business and client.

Southsea

Southsea Coastal Scheme – Flood Defence

The Southsea Coastal Scheme is a major coastal defence programme in Portsmouth. It is described as the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defence project, designed to reduce flood risk to more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses along a 4.5km stretch from Old Portsmouth to Eastney. The scheme is being delivered across multiple frontages, with works including seawalls, sheet piled defences, rock revetments and public realm improvements. VolkerTraffic Management supported the project by providing traffic and pedestrian management around the busy seafront environment. Our role helped maintain safe access for the public, residents, businesses, visitors and construction teams carried out in phases. The project required particular attention to public interface, seasonal visitor numbers, coastal constraints and construction access. By providing well-planned traffic management arrangements, we helped support safe delivery of critical flood defence infrastructure while reducing disruption to the surrounding community.

Ministry of Defence

Ministry of Defence (MOD), Shoeburyness – Flood Alleviation and Defence Environment

MOD Shoeburyness is a Ministry of Defence site near Southend-on-Sea in Essex. The site includes extensive land and tidal areas and is used for defence testing and operational activities. VolkerGround Engineering has undertaken works at Shoeburyness, including the installation of crest piles as part of ongoing flood alleviation measures. VolkerTraffic Management supported works at Shoeburyness by providing traffic management arrangements suitable for a sensitive and controlled environment. Our role included planning safe access and egress for construction traffic, supporting workforce safety and maintaining clear routes for operational and site users. Working in a defence environment requires disciplined planning, communication and compliance. Our traffic management support helped the wider project team deliver works safely while respecting the operational requirements of the site.

Brize Norton

RAF Brize Norton – Aviation Infrastructure

RAF Brize Norton is undergoing a major airfield infrastructure upgrade, with VolkerFitzpatrick carrying out a £180 million programme to replace the 3km runway, refurbish taxiways and associated infrastructure, upgrade airfield lighting systems and improve drainage and supporting infrastructure. The programme supports the long-term operational capability, safety and resilience of the RAF’s principal air mobility hub. VolkerTraffic Management supported the project by providing traffic management planning and delivery for a live aviation and defence environment. Our work helped manage construction vehicle movements, workforce access and interface with the wider site, while supporting the safety of all users. The scale and sensitivity of the project required robust planning, clear communication and close coordination with the project team. Our support helped enable critical infrastructure works to progress safely within an operational airfield environment.
