VolkerGround Engineering installs final sheet pile on the southern section of the Temporary Sea Defence at Sizewell C

VolkerGround Engineering has successfully installed the final sheet pile on the southern section of the temporary sea defence wall at Sizewell C, marking a significant milestone for the project.

Since May 2025, our team has been supporting the Civil Works Alliance in delivering this critical element of the construction programme. Reaching this milestone is the result of extensive planning, engineering expertise and strong collaboration across multiple teams.

The temporary sea defence plays a vital role in protecting the site and enabling the next phase of construction works to progress safely and efficiently.

For the Southern Section of the installation the team used the Giken Supercrush Silent Piler system, this allowed the team to instal sheet piles up to 19 metres in length while remaining fully compliant with vibration limits due to the site's close proximity to the operational Sizewell B power station.

This achievement reflects the commitment, professionalism and dedication of everyone involved in delivering this important piece of infrastructure and represents another major step forward for the Sizewell C project.

“This is an exceptional engineering achievement during these early stages of the project. VolkerGround Engineering has achieved this success despite challenging coastal conditions and the use of innovative piling techniques to minimise activating sensitive seismic monitoring at Sizewell B.”
