Trainee Accountant
We are looking to recruit a Trainee Accountant into our 40+ person VolkerRail (VR) Finance Team reporting into the Corporate Team.
VR is part of VolkerWessels UK (VWUK), turnover £1billion, a subsidiary of a Dutch family owned global construction group, Royal VolkerWessels B.V., with a turnover of €6.6billion. The UK is an important market for VW where it operates in the rail, highways, construction, civils, and infrastructure sectors. VR operates as a group of 2 companies, 5 business units and 2 joint ventures, has a turnover of c£200m, has over 1,000 employees and provides a wide range of contracting services to the railway industry.
Key responsibilities of the role will include
- Provide support to the Corporate Finance Team in all aspects of their roles.
- Provide support to the Cash & Receivables Manager. This will involve assistance in the following areas:
- Process Cash received into the business
- Ensure the correct allocation of receipts to contracts
- Daily banking
- Maintain Cashbooks
- Posting cash
- Bank and General ledger reconciliations
- General housekeeping
- Process Cash received into the business

- Process weekly payment runs
- Liaise with AP teams regard to proposed payments
- Processing payment runs and manual payments
- Process weekly payment runs

- Cash forecasting
- Production of the Weekly Cash Forecast
- Attend weekly cash calls with the business and internal finance
- Interrogate the robustness of forecasts

- Assist in the preparation of tax information as part of the group tax submissions. This will involve:
- assistance in analysing information required in producing the corporation tax returns, including analysis of capital expenditure.

- Assist in producing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and files for review.
- Assist in extracting data and producing information in support of the monthly training reports for the Training Business Review meetings.
- Any other ad hoc duties as deemed to be appropriate for the role.

- Minimum of 5 GCSE's (Grade 5-9)
