We work with clients across main line railways, depots, overground mass transit networks and tramways, along with private sidings and heritage railways, delivering a variety of projects, including maintenance, overhead line installations, bridge installations and track renewals.
We have a greatopportunity within our Plant business for a Senior Accounts Manager.
The role involves leading sales and marketing & innovation projects within the VolkerRail Plant Operations and Maintenance team, ensuring commercial objectives are met and contracted works are delivered cost‑effectively in line with customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will be joining the existing team who deliver to a high standard with the Kirow, Beaver and OTP machines while managing any shortfall within our internal market with optimal utilisation of cross-hire machines.
Duties will include but will not necessarily be limited to:
- Assisting in monitoring the performance of our internal and cross-hire Plant ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Managing updates/status reports/other information as required to inform VR Plant management team of all site/machine concerns. This will involve liaising proactively with engineering, commercial, finance and HSQES colleagues.
- Coordinating with Operations Managers, the Business Manager, and the Commercial team to ensure the POM orderbook consistently reflects and supports the commercial objectives of the POM business stream.
- Managing the preparation and submission of quotes and tenders for POM Plant Operations as well as managing cancellation and refunds due to operational issues.
- Ensuring all required Key Performance Indication factors are relevant and in date
- Engaging with prospective internal and external clients to understand their needs and requirements regarding plant and machinery operations.
- Relationship Management, establishing, nurturing, and maintaining effective partnerships with customers and stakeholders.
- Identifying and developing business opportunities to improve profit margins and maximise machine utilisation
- Development of alternative/innovative solutions to ensure plant utilisation.
About you
You will ideally have experience of working in the accounts manager environment within rail and / or civil engineering sectors. You will have an analytical approach, good communication and ICT skills together with the ability to work under pressure to fixed deadlines. The ideal candidate will also need to be a strong negotiator with proven leadership skills within a contracting background.
A full driving licence is required for the role together with the ability to be flexible, as there will be the requirement to visit sites and clients.
