Trojan Energy Chargepoint

Trojan Energy

To open the EV market to those without off-street parking, VolkerSmart Technologies is working with Trojan Energy on the rollout of flat and flush chargers that sit within the footway on streets across Barnet. The EV chargers are a new design, leaving footways entirely clear and fully accessible to other pavement users, when not in use. This is essential for wheelchair users, those pushing buggies or pedestrians with a visual impairment, as it significantly reduces collision hazards.

What we are doing

The works are being delivered in two phases, with the first phase now complete.

Phase one:

  • Installation of 463 EV charging points along 33 residential roads
  • Installation of feeder cabinets, including concrete base plinths, and associated trenching and cabling works
  • Electrical connections work awarded to our in-house independent connections team, providing a more efficient and cost-effective solution, removing the need to wait for a third-party connection
  • Traffic management design work awarded to VolkerHighways’ in-house traffic management division.

Phase two:

  • Complete turnkey solution from surveys and early contractor involvement through to commissioning and handover of the scheme
  • Installation of up to 800 EV charging points across 65 streets in Barnet
  • Installation of electrical connections to the DNO through our ICP division
  • Responsible for all permitting, temporary traffic regulation orders and parking bay suspensions

Project successes

Throughout the project, VolkerSmart Technologies has worked collaboratively with Trojan Energy to provide early contractor engagement where they developed a bespoke ‘jig’. This has created a more efficient and safer installation process.

During the electrical installation phase of phase one, the team suggested modifications to eliminate testing issues.

We are working closely with local residents to limit parking issues and adjust some site setups to minimise disruption.

"We are thrilled to partner with VolkerSmart Technologies once again to deliver the next phase of EV charging infrastructure in Barnet. Together, we have a proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable charging solutions and are committed to working with Barnet Council to make EV charging accessible and affordable for everyone in the borough."
