Silent piling: vibration-free, noise-free foundation installation
At VolkerGround Engineering, we offer silent piling solutions using state-of-the-art hydraulic pressing technology, ideal for projects where noise, vibration, or disruption must be kept to an absolute minimum.
What is silent piling?
Silent piling is a non-percussive, vibration-free method of installing steel piles into the ground. It is particularly suited to sensitive environments such as:
- Urban areas with noise restrictions
- Sites adjacent to live railways or underground services
- Historic or vibration-sensitive structures
- Hospitals, schools, and residential zones
This method ensures minimal environmental impact while maintaining high levels of safety and precision.
What is a press?
A press, often referred to as a hydraulic pile press, is the core machine used in silent piling. One of the most well-known systems is the Giken Silent Piler.
How it works:
- The press uses hydraulic force to grip and push piles into the ground, rather than driving them with impact or vibration.
- It operates by clamping onto previously installed piles, using them as reaction points to press the next pile into place.
- This method allows for extremely quiet and smooth installation, with minimal disturbance to surrounding structures or communities.
- Additional mitigation measures can be adopted for challenging ground conditions. Measures such as water jetting or pre-augering.
Key benefits of using a press:
- Zero vibration and low noise
- Highly accurate pile alignment
- Ideal for restricted access or sensitive sites
- Environmentally friendly and community-conscious
- No need for large cranes or heavy impact equipment
