Birmingham Airport
VolkerFitzpatrick is delivering a programme of airfield maintenance and improvement works at Birmingham Airport, helping to maintain the safety, resilience and performance of its critical infrastructure while working around the demands of a live international airport.
Purpose
- VolkerFitzpatrick is supporting the ongoing maintenance and improvement of Birmingham Airport’s critical airfield infrastructure. Through a programme of asset replacement and rehabilitation works, our teams are helping to maintain airfield safety, regulatory compliance and the resilience of key operational assets.
What we are doing
- Over a four-year period, VolkerFitzpatrick has delivered annual asset replacement works, predominantly during tightly controlled night-time runway closures to minimise disruption to airport operations.
- Works have included asphalt surfacing and joint repairs, pavement markings, drainage repairs and replacement, Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) bay replacement and associated airfield ground lighting (AGL) works.
- Our work also includes the Taxiway Hotel element of Birmingham Airport’s Taxiway Rehabilitation Programme, comprising pavement rehabilitation, AGL, drainage, line marking and associated enabling works.
Project successes
- VolkerFitzpatrick has established a strong delivery relationship with Birmingham Airport through successive airfield maintenance and improvement projects. Delivering complex works within restricted night-time closures demonstrates our ability to operate effectively in a live international airport environment, carefully coordinating works around operational requirements while maintaining safety and quality.
