The team is using a hybrid installation solution which includes building both new underground trench duct networks and overhead infrastructure, as well as using existing infrastructure. This combined installation will provide a faster and more efficient delivery, enabling most residents and businesses in the areas VolkerTelecoms operates in, to access the UK’s fastest broadband.
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer to join our expanding Telecoms engineering team. The role will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to work on a long-term, high-profile programme based in Yorkshire.
VolkerRail head office is in Doncaster, however there’s also opportunity to work across our offices at York/ Birmingham and Glasgow with site and remote working.
The successful candidate will provide the testing support to drive the development and delivery of major multidiscipline schemes through the relevant GRIP stages.
As Senior Testing & Commissioning Engineer you will be responsible for test and commissioning site works ensuring, where required, interfaces are coordinated between the different railway disciplines within the project and internally within Volkerrail to ensure delivery is achieved to program, budget and quality standards.
As a key member of the test team, you will ensure engineering excellence is achieved throughout the project lifecycle, from handover from design and implementation phases through to handover to the client. You will also support in managing your test resources and the team effectively to deliver against agreed plans and budgets.
About you
You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role. The candidate will also ideally have the following Experience/skill set:
- In-depth technical knowledge of Telecoms Railway Systems (Ops/ SISS)
- Experience of producing test and commissioning documentation, ideally in the role of PICOT
- Knowledge of relevant telecoms standards and experience of implementing them correctly and clearly in relevant documentation and on site
- Demonstrate experience of testing & commissioning of Telecoms systems in a rail project environment
- Act as PICOT and Lead Tester on Telecoms/ Multidiscipline projects
- Lead test teams on site acting as technical lead for testing activities
- Coach and mentor junior staff for all testing activities.
- Hold or be working towards Professional Accreditation
- Experience at team working/collaborating.
- Confident communication skills, both in writing and in internal and external correspondence.
- Competent user of Microsoft packages and other engineering software
- Full UK Driving Licence and PTS
Flexibility is also essential for this role as there will be weekend working and travel.
