At VolkerHighways, we deliver highways and infrastructure services across the UK, working in partnership with local authorities and clients to provide high‑quality, safe and sustainable solutions. As part of our growing commercial team, you will support the delivery of projects that make a real difference to local communities.
Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will support Quantity Surveyors and the wider commercial team in all aspects of project delivery and support work on the CRSTS (City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements) programme. Other responsibilities on will include:
- Understand project scope, tender details, risks and allowances.
- Assist with profit and loss forecasts and monthly commercial reports.
- Help prepare main contract valuations and cash flow forecasts.
- Support the site team with commercial awareness.
- Assist procurement to maximise profit and ensure compliant orders.
- Help prepare subcontract documentation and comparisons.
- Measure subcontract works accurately and validate records.
- Prepare subcontract payment notices and recommendations.
- Assist with liabilities, accruals and subcontractor appraisals.
- Ensure compliance with subcontract and material schedules.
- Assist the Bid Team when required.
- Maintain professional relationships while protecting VH’s commercial interests.
- Maintain programme awareness across all programme types.
- Promote best practice, minimise waste and act in VH’s best interests.
About you
- Working towards or already holding a recognised qualification with RICS, CIOB, or ICES, or a degree/HND with a strong numerical or technical focus (e.g., construction, civil engineering, land or structural studies).
- Practical experience or awareness of commercial processes within construction or highways.
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to build positive working relationships across project teams.
- Proactive, analytical, and keen to develop both technical and commercial skills.
- Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and lives VolkerHighways’ values.
