VolkerWessels UK wins ‘Best Company’ at Planet Mark Awards

VolkerWessels UK has been voted ‘Best Company’ at the 2023 Planet Mark Awards. In a ceremony held at the beautiful Royal Institution on 2nd November, the evening saw 13 awards presented to organisations excelling in their carbon reduction journey. The audience were also treated to an inspirational talk by Si Bellamy OBE, Chief Activation Officer at Eden Project.

The ‘Best Company’ award celebrates a company who has embraced the Planet Mark vision through outstanding results in all aspects of the ‘Measure, Engage, Communicate’ process, with VolkerWessels UK recognised for the ‘impressive clear articulation’ of the positive impacts our sustainability strategy, ‘People-Planet-Purpose’ has had for the business. This includes successes such as 75% of our company car fleet being electric or hybrid, 1230 days of work experience, over 3500 hours of volunteering and a 14% absolute reduction in emissions in 2022.

Emma Ward, Head of Sustainability and Inclusion at VolkerWessels UK, reflects on the award. "We were hugely proud to collect the award on behalf of everyone who is helping to bring People-Planet-Purpose to life. Since its original publication in 2020, the strategy has been the catalyst for conversations about sustainability at all levels in the business. The benefits we were able to share demonstrate how effective it has been in bringing people on a journey and empowering everyone to make a positive difference."

Adrian Shah-Cundy, Corporate Responsibility Director at VolkerWessels UK continues "We are truly humbled to receive such an accolade in the company of so many organisations working so hard to achieve the right outcome for the benefit of many. Sustainability can be challenging; resilience and a commitment to make a difference is what keeps us going and the reassurance from knowing you are not alone in your endeavours."

VolkerWessels UK also collected their ‘10-year Milestone Award’, celebrating ten years of working alongside Planet Mark to reduce carbon emissions.
