The Power & Civils Business within VolkerRail Specialist Businesses offers comprehensive electrical design and installation within all railway environments, overhead line installation, ancillary civils construction, and piling services. We provide a turnkey, multi-discipline service that includes survey, ground investigation, design and engineering, construction, testing, and commissioning for all railway power elements.
Our services encompass the design, construction, and modification of both High Voltage and Low Voltage power distribution systems for the UK operational railway, including essential supplies for signalling power and train control. We also work on railway facilities such as depots and stations, installing lighting, small power, and depot protection systems.
For overhead line electrification equipment, we support projects from early design to full installation, testing, and commissioning. We also perform various lineside civils work, including under track crossings and concrete base and formation works.
Our services range from small projects to large multi-million-pound turnkey packages, covering early project development to final commissioning and handover, either as the principal contractor or as Tier 2 and 3 suppliers.
We are currently working on a number of contracts some examples of which include TransPennine Route upgrade (TRue), Radlett Depot, North Western Electrification Programme, West Coast Signalling Power Supply Upgrade, Edgeley Feeder Station. VolkerRail have also been appointed on CP7 Framework in Southern Region and in Scotland.
We have are looking to recruit a Part time Document Controller based in Doncaster for initially a fixed term 6 month period.
The primary responsibilities for the role will be the management of documentation received by, and issued by the project team.
- Identifying when new project documents are issued.
- Downloading and formally recording documents to company servers/systems
- Informing key members of the project team of the arrival of new documents and providing assistance
with distribution - Logging document details on the register, including date received/transmitted, document title, number
and revision, study discipline(s) to which document distributed - Registering completed company documents
- Uploading documents to the client’s document management system..
- Ensuring that project team members use standard templates for document preparation and checking of
outgoing documents, making necessary edits to ensure consistency in the documents issued to the client. - Check that documents prepared by the project team use the correct numbering systems (client and
company systems), allocating numbers where required. - Act as point of contact for client’s Document Controller, resolving any day to day issues which may
arise.
About you

Previous experience of working within a Document Control or a Quality Control environment in the railway industry would be a distinct advantage.

Proficient in all Microsoft Packages and be able to work on their own initiative.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat would be a distinct advantage.
- Detailed working knowledge of ProjectWise Document Control System as used by Network Rail on their projects.
- Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload
- High attention to detail
