Sheffield Supertram rail replacement project - Phase 2

Sheffield

VolkerRail is continuing to replace track sections that have suffered wear and tear on the street running rails of the Sheffield Supertram network.

This project is a continuation of the first phase of the Supertram Rail Replacement scheme, which VolkerRail completed between 2013 and 2015; with successful results.

The new project has been broken down into three stages, with work beginning on 26 May 2018.

Phase one saw VolkerRail replace more than 12km of track.

Over the course of this phase, VolkerRail will replace approximately 9.5km of track with the aim of improving passenger comfort and reducing noise levels.

The first stage of works has been broken down into five areas, which will be completed from May through to September 2018:

Area 1

Hillsborough and Middlewood

Area 2

Birley Lane – Halfway

Area 3

Gleadless Townend – Herdings Park

Area 4

Gleadless Townend – Halfway/Herdings Park

Area 5

Donetsk Way - Halfway

All three stages are due to finish in the summer of 2020.
