Sheffield Supertram rail replacement project

After nearly 20 years of success Sheffield Supertram's track was close to being life expired. To ensure the track for the next 20 years, VolkerRail was appointed by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to completed essential replacement works.

VolkerRail completed phase 1 - 4; which saw track replacment at Park Grange Road, Granville Road, Ridgeway Road, City Hall, Shalesmoor, Albert Terrace and Ripley, in 2014.

The final phase, phase 5 began in March 2015 and was completed on 25 August 2015. This multi-million pound investment, saw VolkerRail replace over 3km of track in the Park Square, Castle Square, Hillsborough, Sheffield Station, City Road and Gleadless Townend areas.

In total VolkerRail has replaced over 12km of track over the past three years.
