London Borough of Camden

London, Camden

This highways term contract for the London Borough of Camden covers a variety of maintenance activities including reactive repairs, road marking and anti-skid dressing.  The work is carried out at a wide variety of locations, from dense urban streets such as Kentish Town Road and Kilburn High Road to the quieter backstreets of Hampstead.

Schemes are also carried out on carriageways and footways in a rolling programme of projects that are decided from our highway inspection reports and the client's independent detailed visual inspection report. The area covered is the north part of the borough from Camden Town and Kentish Town up to Hampstead and Kilburn.

VolkerHighways also carry out highways inspections and reactive maintenance for works up to 5m2 paid for under a lump sum agreement.  This approach has substantially reduced administrative duties associated with works of this nature.

Early on in the contract a series of joint workshops allowed both teams to develop a business plan to be the foundation of the on-going close working relationship.

Contracts Manager, Andy Scotter, said: "The Client's positive approach to our team was built on the personal relationships developed in our approach to their needs. This was helped by working together as a team to find solutions to problems which were identified early in the process.

"We have an excellent working relationship with our client, supported by trust and respect built over many years, by providing high quality works safely and on time and in a non-confrontational way.

Andy continues, "The client requires us to re-use as much of the arising's as we can, so our recycling process contributes substantially to the Council's and our company targets. For example in our recycling segregation area at our depot, we store concrete and broken paving and other materials which are then crushed to produce Type 1 material for use as aggregate in concrete sub bases.

The contract was due to finish in March 2013 but has been extended for three years after successfully meeting key performance requirements.
