VolkerFitzpatrick has provided access from the A228 to serve future commercial unit plots at the Kingsnorth Commercial Park, which is a 115 acre site with planning consent to accommodate approximately 2,050,000ft2 of B1, B2 and B8 floor space and is only 20 minutes from the M25 (J2).
The works included 300,000m3 of bulk earthworks, contaminated ground remediation, site clearance, construction of a 3km section 278 compliant highway, landscaping and the installation of extensive ecological mitigation measures.
VolkerFitzpatrick worked closely with environmental consultants and Natural England to protect local flora and fauna with several species requiring relocation and new habitat creation.
Extensive new calcareous grassland, scrub, woodland, ponds and ditches were created to provide new homes for water voles, amphibians, reptiles, badgers, and terrestrial invertebrates. The edges of balancing ponds were used to provide 800m of water vole bank and 1500m of planting within the commercial site.
This project was recognised by the British Safety Council who presented VolkerFitzpatrick with a merit award for high standards of health and safety performance.
