Crossrail Tunnelling Academy

London

The Crossrail Tunnelling Academy is a unique facility constructed for Crossrail by VolkerFitzpatrick at a cost of £10m and completed in 32 weeks.

Due to the extensive network of tunnels, which will be required to complete the Crossrail project, it has been specifically designed to teach modern tunnel construction techniques. This is the first academy of its kind in the world.

Following the completion of the facility, VolkerCare was awarded the facilities management contract which includes all plant and equipment maintenance (planned and preventative) together with landscape maintenance, site security and specialist cleaning services to all classrooms, offices and workshops.

The facility is now in constant use with up to 150 students a day using the facility. Our on-site facilities manager has the additional challenge of many high level dignitaries who wish to visit the facility such as Prince Andrew and David Cameron.
