The seven day trek, which started in the rainforests of Lemosho Glades, saw Steve walk and climb through all weather conditions, tough winds and even during the night in an attempt to reach the summit.

The highlight of the trip for Steve however was not the summit climb but two days later when he was able to visit one of the projects supported by the Railway Children Charity. After the visit he commented: "The sponsorship money is going to a worthy cause and is making a big difference to the lives of the children supported by the Railway Children Charity."

The Railway Children became the chosen charity for VolkerRail after Steve became moved by the plight of children, who were the same age as his own, begging and sleeping on or around the railways of India. Live rail networks can be fatal and Steve felt compelled to do something to raise both money and awareness for this amazing charity.

Also this year, eight members of staff from VolkerRail managed to raise over £13,500 by completing the London to Paris Cycle Challenge in aid of the Railway Children Charity, cycling a total of 178 miles over three days and two countries.
