VolkerRail Employee Wins On Track Worker of the Year Award

Recent

The 2008 RailStaff Awards evening took place on Saturday 1st November at the ICC in Birmingham, and once again played host to a successful night for VolkerRail with James Morrison picking up the major award of ‘On Track Worker of the Year´. Following a large number of worthy nominations for this category, James Morrison from Projects South was a deserving winner. This is the second year that a VolkerRail employee has won this prestigious award, where last year Brian Wright (National Renewals) won in this category.

James has worked within the railway industry for 6 years, commencing his career as a Platelayer for VolkerRail on the West Anglia Route Modernisation Project and Southern Track Renewals. His ability and commitment to the organisation and his team saw him progress to a Foreman and earlier this year in March he was promoted to the position of Supervisor.

James has been described by his colleagues as a great leader and team player who will always go the extra mile to achieve business objectives and to assist his colleagues. Winning this award provides James with the recognition and admiration he deserves from his colleagues, managers and peers within the railway industry, where he is an inspiration to others.

James along with nine other colleagues attended the event hosted by Pete Waterman, pop impresario and railway entrepreneur and were entertained by comedian Milton Jones and music from Fully Funktional.

James will choose a prize from an incredible selection including a week for two in the Caribbean, a week on Rodeo Drive in Beverley Hills, a family holiday in Disneyland California, a week in Bangkok or a Sony Technology Package.

We are also proud of the other VolkerRail nominations that were put forward. These included:

  • John Treadwell: Projects South
  • James Whittle: Power
  • Matt Lewis: Power
  • Simon Skinner: Power
  • Pete Usher: HSQE
