VolkerFitzpatrick wins contract for logistics centre

Recent

VolkerFitzpatrick, the Dutch owned multi-disciplinary contractor, have won a multi million pound contract to build a logistics support centre for media company News International.

The 3,750m2 centre, to be built adjacent to News International's existing print facility at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire, will manage logistics support services and Direct to Retail functions for News International's newspaper titles. It will also house 430m2 of offices, a 175m2 plant deck area, car parking and external service yards. The contract will last 24 weeks.

The steel framed building will aim to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘good'.

Early design meetings with News International will ensure their requirements are incorporated in the most cost effective and buildable solutions. This will take into consideration the ongoing maintenance and running costs not just initial outlay. The building is being designed and built with minimal maintenance needs. The design will eliminate many flat roofs, awkward junctions and flashings, ledges and valleys were water, wind and snow may affect the water tightness of the building. Furthermore, light fixtures and fittings, and other high-level services will be easy to replace, thus reducing ongoing maintenance costs.

"Due to the close links we enjoy with our supply chain, and the experience we have within our operational teams, a fast and efficient 24 week build programme has been agreed. This will give News International a four week commissioning and IT installation period within the construction contract, ensuring an operational facility upon completion of the contract" said VolkerFitzpatrick Commercial Director John O'Grady.
