Three VolkerFitzpatrick projects are amongst the shortlisted finalists in the UK Rail Industry Awards 2016.
Congratulations to the team at the Intercity Express (IEP) Stoke Gifford depot who have been shortlisted in the corporate social responsibility category. In and around the project site, VolkerFitzpatrick and Hitachi Rail Europe are working with the local community to change perceptions of the new maintenance facility and highlight future benefits for local people through training and employment opportunities.
The Lea Valley Bridge and Lea Valley Viaduct projects have both been shortlisted in the outstanding project – Medium (£3m – £20m) category. The Lea Valley Bridge works included the reconstruction of a single span structure carrying a two-track, non-electrified railway, which was completed safely and on time, on a very constrained and logistically complex site.
The Lea Valley Viaduct has dramatically reduced Network Rail’s maintenance costs and has been strengthened and improved with a 120-year design life.
John Cox said: “We are delighted to see these projects get the recognition they deserve. Both projects in the Lea Valley have resulted in improvements to the service in this area as well as allowing Network Rail to extend the life of the structures.
“The team at IEP Stoke Gifford can be very proud of the work they do in the communities around the site, particularly with local homeless shelter, The Julian Trust who the team regularly raise money for. Good luck to the teams involved with all three projects.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony held at Battersea Evolution on 11 February 2016.
