VolkerFitzpatrick shortlisted for Construction News Awards Project of the Year

The VolkerFitzpatrick redevelopment of Gatwick Airport train station has been shortlisted in the ‘Project of the Year (between £10m – £50m)’ category at this year’s Construction News Awards.

The awards highlight and reward companies and projects that excel in the areas of client satisfaction, health and safety performance, sustainability, completion on time / early and to budget, supply chain best practice and innovation.

The £40 million Gatwick Airport station redevelopment project, commissioned by Network Rail was officially opened in February 2014. It involved the construction of a new platform 7 complete with track and signalling modifications as well as installing new escalators and lifts on platforms 5 and 6. A new link bridge that crossed the Brighton main line was also among the major improvements delivered.      

John Cox, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick's rail division said: “ We are proud to be nominated in this category for the work we carried out during the redevelopment of the Gatwick Airport station. The project was very important to Network Rail and Gatwick Airport and despite some challenges faced during the construction, the project was completed on time, ready for the thousands of passengers to use the revamped station.”
