VolkerFitzpatrick achieve BIM Level two compliance ahead of Government deadline

Recent

VolkerFitzpatrick is among the first UK main contractors to achieve BIM (Building Information Modelling) Level 2 certification ahead of the UK Government deadline of 4 April 2016.

BSI

The company received the certification from BSI, the business standards company through its BIM scheme for BS 1192, PAS 91 and PAS 1192-2 Information management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects at the EcoBuild conference in March.

The scheme was launched in December 2015 and has been developed by BSI to help contractors and their supply chain provide evidence that they have the capability to deliver projects using BIM. This enables contractors to demonstrate their compliance before the government mandate for all centrally funded projects to be BIM Level two compliant, comes into effect in April.

Rob Dingwall, Head of Planning and Design, VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “We are delighted to be amongst the first companies to demonstrate BIM capability for Level two as a main contractor and be at the forefront of its use on government projects.

“VolkerFitzpatrick have worked closely with BSI and our partner, BIMBox to achieve this certification that will help show our commitment to our government and local authority clients.”

Andy Butterfield, Global Head of Construction, Product Certification at BSI commented: “It’s great to see that our verification scheme is gathering momentum amongst Tier one organisations and those in the construction industry are recognizing the benefits of the scheme which has been developed in collaboration with influential industry stakeholders.

“By achieving verification VolkerFitzpatrick have demonstrated their commitment to being compliant with the requirements for PAS 1192-2 covering Design and Construction for Level two BIM, as detailed in the Construction Prequalification Questionnaire document - PAS 91, ahead of the Government deadline and are now benefitting from improved collaboration right across the supply chain.

It has been a pleasure working with the team at VolkerFitzpatrick who underwent a rigorous and robust assessment process to achieve certification with BSI against the requirements of PAS 1192-2. VolkerFitzpatrick are amongst the first companies to achieve certification with BSI, we are delighted to be working with them and congratulate them on this significant achievement.”

In order to achieve certification of their BIM capability from BSI, contractors have to demonstrate that they adhere to the requirements of the PAS 1192-2 standard through an independent assessment by BSI. The assessment involves an onsite audit which assesses the documented procedures for relevant processes in PAS 1192-2 as well as the competency of staff.

PAS 1192-2 is one of the series of standards designed to drive cost savings and efficiencies through waste reduction and improved collaboration.
