VolkerBrooks completes steel fabrication work to help extend the UKs largest container port

Recent

VolkerBrooks has successfully fabricated and delivered 190 tonnes of twin Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS) wailings, to assist with the extension of berth 9 at the Port of Felixstowe.

To help provide structural support to the ports newly piled quay wall, our in house steel fabrication team prepped and butt welded 66 50mm thick end plates onto 33 sets of box sections, to form the walings.

Delivered to site six weeks ahead of the scheduled installation date, the RHS wailings were installed by main contractor VSBW.

As part of the works package, VolkerBrooks was also commissioned to supply, fabricate and deliver 60 tonnes of tie rod bearing plates, to be used as washer plates for the tie rod ends.

Due to some of the bearing plate sets weighing over 250kg all lifting points were MPI tested, to ensure site safety, with the heaviest being sent for load testing by an independent third party.
