Vauxhall Motors and VolkerHighways give Dell Farm a makeover

Recent

Two VolkerHighways volunteers visited Dell Farm, to build a campfire circle and support Vauxhall’s community work.

Dell Farm

Dell Farm in Whipsnade is an inspirational education centre offering both residential and day programmes, as well as holiday bookings. The farm’s activities include caving, tunnelling and scaling a 20ft climbing wall.

Vauxhall Motors runs a volunteering scheme, which allows every employee to give one day a year to working within the community. A recent consultation about the future of Dell Farm caught several Vauxhall employees’ attention, as they had fond memories of visiting the farm themselves as children. A team of 30 employees and their children visited the farm, to help with a major makeover.

VolkerHighways supported Vauxhall by providing a set of stone slabs, for the farm’s campfire. In addition, two members of the VolkerHighways team volunteered to lay them. Operatives Paul Mullen and Phil Dempsey did a fantastic job of laying the campfire circle, enhancing the woodland experience for future visitors.

Paul Mullen, operative for VolkerHighways said: “We were pleased to come and help. If this makes the farm more desirable for local groups to book we will have done a good job.”

Cherie Denton, community relations coordinator for Vauxhall Motors said: “I want to say thank you to VolkerHighways. Both Phil and Paul were real gentlemen and did a sterling job on the campfire circle. The wooded area was completely full of nettles and overgrown trees prior to the great work they did.”
