Two VolkerWessels UK businesses shortlisted for eight UK Rail Industry Awards

VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerRail are shortlisted in eight categories for the 2018 UK Rail Industry Awards.

VolkerFitzpatrick is shortlisted for three awards:

The Anglia Route Collaboration (Network Rail, VolkerFitzpatrick, Atkins) has been shortlisted under the ‘Environmental and sustainability’ category, for their work on the West Anglia Main Line project. Establishing a strategy to deliver core sustainability goals across the programme, to transform communities, improve value and leave a legacy.

VolkerFitzpatrick’s Cambridge North station project made the shortlist under two categories, in collaboration with Network Rail. The project is shortlisted under ‘Infrastructure planning’ and ‘Outstanding projects – large (over £20 million)’.

The new station was devised by the county and district councils, funded by the UK Government, managed by Network Rail and built by VolkerFitzpatrick. In addition, VolkerRail delivered the rail systems for the station, along with associated remodelling work of the old Chesterton sidings yard, as part of the CP5 Multifunctional Framework in Anglia.

VolkerRail is shortlisted for five awards:

A joint project with Unipart Rail has been shortlisted under the ‘Collaborative Working’ category, for their overhead line electrification innovation. The two businesses worked together to transform overhead line electrification, by developing new, innovative solutions around pre-fabrication build, facilities and tracking of multi-assets.

VolkerRail’s MPT joint venture with Laing O’Rourke and Thales has been shortlisted for the ‘Digital pioneer’ category for taking ‘digital engineering to the next level’ following work on the Trafford Park Line, which used collaborative BIM tools to leverage value from design through to construction and handover.

Their Rail Electrification Alliance, (VolkerRail, Network Rail, Siemens, Murphy, Jacobs and TSP) working on Network Rail’s East Coast Main Line Power Supply Upgrade Project has been shortlisted under three categories. Firstly, in the Electrification’ category, as one of the only electrification schemes in CP5 to have met its regulated milestone.

The Alliance has also been shortlisted for theProduct and service innovation – product’ award, for using a new air insulated switchgear solution and the ‘Outstanding projects – large (over £20 million)’ award, for achieving its regulated milestone, to time and within budget.

Being shortlisted in these categories is a testament to our shared work ethic and the dedication of everyone involved.”

VolkerRail’s Staffordshire Alliance took home the 2017 outstanding project award and I hope to see our teams rewarded for their efforts again this year, in the nominated categories.”

Now in its fifth year, the UK Rail Industry Awards recognises the hard work and achievements of the dedicated organisations, teams and individuals working tirelessly to deliver an efficient and robust rail network.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 22 March 2018, at the Battersea Evolution in London.
