Leonard Circus shortlisted at the Hackney Design Awards 2014

Recent

Leonard Circus has been shortlisted for the Design Award and the People's Choice Award at this year's Hackney Design Awards 2014.
Leonard Circus in Hackney is the first shared space street in the east of London which brings together pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles in a harmonious environment. The design concept was first inspired by the work of Dutch traffic engineer Hans Monderman. The scheme was completed by VolkerHighways and London Borough of Hackney's highways team.

The new shared space is designed to meet the needs of the majority that use it which includes pedestrians and cyclists. It is a much more accessible area particularly for the elderly, disabled and those with pushchairs.

The judging panel will complete visits of each shortlisted scheme to determine the winners, commendations and mentions for the Design Award. The people of Hackney and visitors to the borough have until 20 October 2014 to vote for the People's Choice award.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 26 November 2014.
