Although now part of the wider VolkerWessels UK hazard spotter scheme, which sees £1 donated to MENCAP each time someone completes a hazard, near miss or close call report, VolkerRail has continued with its original policy of donating each time a hazard is ‘closed’.

VolkerRail launched the hazard spotter scheme in July 2012, as a way of raising awareness about the importance of health and safety reporting amongst employees. The scheme encourages staff to pro-actively report potential hazards and close calls, thus resulting in a safer environment.

Stuart Webster-Spriggs, HSQE director said: "This continues to be a win-win situation as Bluebell Wood benefits from the money raised and VolkerRail continues to become an even safer place to work. The hazard spotter scheme has helped us in the prevention of work related injuries and ill-heath and is a proactive and proven method in the prevention of accidents."

Since the scheme began VolkerRail has raised over £7,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
