After 14 days continuous working, the team renewed a section of plain line track at East Croydon tram stop, along with a crossover at George Street, and undertook remedial works at Church Street.

Since 2012, VolkerRail has replaced more than 6,500m of track across the network, including Reeves Corner, Addiscombe Road, Tamworth Road, Morden Road, George Street and Gravel Hill.

VolkerRail’s inhouse design team completed all temporary works design, and sister companies VolkerHighways and VolkerLaser provided traffic management plans and waterproof membrane repairs.

Sam Allen, VolkerRail’s metro and light rail general manager, said: “We understand the impact this type of work has on the local community, and our teams made every effort to keep disruption to a minimum. To offset any disruption, and to leave a positive impact on the community, our team donated materials and volunteered support to undertake public footpath and tarmac repairs for the local council.

“Using in-house capabilities from across VolkerWessels UK also showcases our ability to offer a full rounded service to our client, as we continue our efforts to improve passenger journeys around Croydon.”

The team will return at the end of March, to undertake Phase 2 works, which includes replacing four turnouts.
