VolkerFitzpatrick was contracted by the Cooperative to design and build a new 440,000ft2 distribution warehouse in Avonmouth.
This project saw the combination of a base build and fit out contract. The steel framed, externally clad, triple portal warehouse, was built with a two storey integral office block and fully fitted canteen and kitchen.
The main warehouse area was spilt into specific food areas including ambient, chill, produce and freezer. A dekit area and various internal single storey office pods, as well as a separate energy centre to house the electric and sprinkler pumps, a large area of racking and in rack sprinklers were also built.
Externally VolkerFitzpatrick built a vehicle maintenance unit building, a gatehouse and fuelling area complete with vehicle wash and sprinkler tanks, as well as associated external works.
Due to constant communications with the client VolkerFitzpatrick was able to optimise its programme achieving a mutually acceptable completion date, which allowed the Cooperative to complete its internal fit out and works.
The project has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent' rating.
