Over 70 staff from VolkerWessels UK raised over £1,200 as they did something funny for money last week, competing in a mixed gender netball tournament in aid of Comic Relief.

The competition was fierce, with teams from across the company battling it out to be named champion and raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief. A large number of spectators also turned out to support family, friends and colleagues as they showed off their silky skills.

Despite the blood, sweat and tears plus a few elbows and leg sweeps whilst the umpires weren’t looking, the competition was a great success with everyone involved ending the night laughing and with smiles on their faces.

Tournament organiser and VolkerWessels UK, resourcing coordinator, Liz Tattersall said: “It was great to see so many people getting involved in the netball and we are absolutely delighted to raise so much money for Comic Relief.

“Everyone had great fun and got into the spirit of the competition really quickly and I think we might have even found ourselves some new netball enthusiasts amongst our male colleagues.

“We set ourselves a target of £500, so to get over double that was incredible and really shows the commitment for people to support such a worthy cause.”

The competition was held at Wodson Park in Ware on Thursday 12 March and was won by the victorious IT team. They narrowly beat the HR team in a close final to take away the trophy and office bragging rights.
