VolkerFitzpatrick appointed to design and build LAMDAs new drama school

LAMDA (the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) has appointed VolkerFitzpatrick for the preconstruction stage of its new state-of-the-art facilities. Based on Talgarth Road, Hammersmith, London, this new building will deliver both study and performance spaces on one site for the first time in LAMDA’s 150 year history.

LAMDA is a leading drama school with a global reputation, offering vocational training to the actors, stage managers, technicians, directors, and designers of the future. Its many famous alumni include Benedict Cumberbatch, David Suchet and Dame Janet Suzman. 

The new 5,500m2 building will provide a 200-seat theatre , flexible 120-seat studio theatre, backstage facilities, soundproofed TV/film/audio suite, teaching block with 10 studios, student changing facilities, administrative offices, library and study centre.

VolkerFitzpatrick will be working alongside Níall McLaughlin Architects, Bradbrook Consulting and Pell Frischmann on design and pricing subcontract packages.

Preconstruction will complete in January 2015 with demolition starting in November this year. Completion of LAMDA’s inspirational new facilities is scheduled for May 2016.
