Recent

Two generations of future engineers were given an insight into the construction industry recently with visits to the VolkerWessels UK head office and VolkerFitzpatrick project in Wigmore Street, London.

A group of year five and six pupils from Puller Memorial School in Ware visited the head office of VolkerWessels UK where they were given a fun look into the construction industry, what type of projects the company delivers and the kind of jobs available.

Adrian Shah-Cundy, head of corporate responsibility at VolkerWessels UK said: “We are delighted to continue our association with Puller Memorial School. We arranged the workshop to highlight to the children the variety of work carried out in the construction industry and what roles they could fulfil during their career.

“Developing an interest in construction and showing the children the range of opportunities available to both boys and girls in the industry at an early age is key as we look to find the rising stars of tomorrow. There was clearly a lot of interest from the children as they came up with some great questions that really showed an understanding of the industry. ”

The VolkerFitzpatrick team at Wigmore Street hosted a group of 27 students from Delft University in the Netherlands completing their Master’s degrees. The group were given a tour of the site and shown some of the specialist processes involved in the complex project as well as an insight into the roles offered on site.

Both groups really enjoyed their time and took with them a greater understanding of the construction industry in the UK.
